Smartphone Charger And Battery Life Tips.

 Battery Life Tips.

Maintaining Your Smartphone's Battery Life.

Smartphone batteries have come a long way with advancements in battery cell technology, but many users still struggle with batteries that barely last a day. However, it's important to recognize that the way we use and charge our phones can contribute to this issue.

A common misconception is that charging smartphones in short bursts or waiting until they are almost completely drained is beneficial for battery health. In reality, lithium-ion batteries, which are found in most smartphones, have their own versions of 'stress' as outlined by Battery University, a site run by battery company Cadex. Just like humans, subjecting these batteries to prolonged stress can be detrimental to their lifespan.

While smartphone batteries are not designed to last forever, adopting healthy charging habits can significantly extend their longevity. In this article, we will provide you with some easy ways to maximize your smartphone battery's lifespan by changing your charging behaviors.

1. Recharge Early: Don't Let Your Battery Reach Empty.

Instead of letting your battery drain completely, consider charging your phone throughout the day. Every smartphone battery has a limited number of charging cycles, which refers to the number of times you charge it from 0% to 100%. For instance, if your battery has a lifespan of 400 charging cycles, allowing it to drain fully each day means it will only last for about 400 days. By topping off the battery before it reaches zero, you reduce the overall number of charging cycles, effectively prolonging the battery's lifespan. Aim to keep your battery charged midway whenever possible and only charge it to 100% when you truly need the extra capacity.

2. Steer Clear of Temperature Extremes.

Exposing your phone to extremely high or low temperatures can accelerate battery drain. Lithium-ion batteries perform optimally at room temperature, around 68 °F (20 °C). When your phone's battery is fully charged, it depletes much faster in extreme temperatures, leading to long-term damage. If you live in a cold region and spend considerable time outdoors, investing in an insulated phone case is a wise choice. Additionally, ensure that you only charge your battery within the temperature range of 41 °F (5 °C) to 95 °F (35 °C). If you notice your phone or charger becoming hot during a charging session, disconnect it promptly to avoid battery damage.

3. Optimize Battery Life: Avoid Constantly Charging to Full Capacity.

Charging your battery to 100% every time can subject it to unnecessary stress. While it won't immediately destroy the battery, charging to only 80% whenever possible can help extend its lifespan. Frequent exposure to high voltage can contribute to wear and tear over time, so opting for a standard, slower charging method is beneficial for preserving battery health in the long run.

4. Use Ultra-Fast Charging Sparingly.

While fast charging is convenient, relying on it for every charge can negatively impact your battery's performance. The additional stress imposed on the battery during fast charging can lead to accelerated wear and reduced longevity. It is advisable to utilize standard, slower charging methods more frequently to maintain battery health.

5. Limit Phone Usage While Charging.

To prevent parasitic load, avoid engaging in activities such as gaming or video streaming while charging your phone. Parasitic load occurs when the battery is drained during the charging process, placing higher voltage stress on the battery and generating heat. This can cause certain parts of the battery to deteriorate faster than others. While it's acceptable to take calls or browse the web while charging, refrain from engaging in resource-intensive tasks to promote battery longevity.
